PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Provecta has recently, Jan’12, been awarded this contract for the supply of specialist control system and process control engineering. The new contract is for two years with an option for a further two years. The required services are a continuation of several previous contracts spanning back to 2004 for which Provecta was the service provider. This long relationship with Macquarie Generation is a reflection of the client’s high level of regard and satisfaction for the expertise, quality and depth of Provecta’s services. The project is for the provision of engineering services to assist Liddell Power Station (4 x 500MW, coal fired, steam driven turbo-generators) with enhancements to their process control, Yokogawa CS3000 distributed control system (DCS) and various peripheral PLC’s. The DCS was installed in the early 2000′s to replace Liddell’s original relay and analogue based controls. The engagement requires a broad range of skills and disciplines including investigation, reporting, concept design, detail design and implementation of process control solutions and enhancements. The engagement also requires specialist control system IT security support and specialist process control engineering. The skills and disciplines required to service this engagement underlie PROVECTA’s extensive power station process control, instrumentation and electrical experience.

The multiple and diverse tasks undertaken as part of this engagement include;

  • Process control anomalies and plant failure investigations and recommendations with subsequent implementation of control mitigation initiatives
  • Retuning of the boiler, turbine and coordinated controls
  • Design and implementation of high level automation functions. E.g. single button startup and shutdown sequence for the pulverised fuel, feedwater heater and Reheater dryout systems
  • Instrumentation, control and electrical ‘owner’s engineer’ role for major projects
  • Design and implementation of additional plant integration into the DCS
  • Alarm management and reduction
  • Human Interface System (HIS) hardware upgrade specification and implementation
  • Control system IT security support and implementation of enhancement initiatives
  • Electrical switchgear design
