PROVECTA wins Coal Reclaim DCS Controls Upgrade Contract

Following on from recent successful projects undertaken at Macquarie Generation’s Liddell Power Station, PROVECTA has been awarded a large contract to upgrade the integrated controls for the Liddell Power Station Coal Receival and Reclaims systems to the station wide Yokogawa CS3000 DCS platform. The Coal Receival and Reclaim at Liddell system consists of 26 conveyors and shuttles which are used to manage the receival, storage and delivery of coal to the respective boiler coal bunkers. This complex system is currently controlled via dual Modicon 984 PLC’s interfaced via a modbus plus link into the Yokogawa DCS. The legacy PLC’s will be replaced with a direct DCS interface utilising distributed I/O on a fibre optic network. The contract also involves the installation of a number of new field instrumentation devices including long travel resolvers for the accurate positioning of conveyor shuttles and trippers, the upgrading of underspeed detection devices, new coal level detection instrumentation, belt tracking switches and the segregation of emergency trip devices.
