Wailoa Hydroelectric Power Station is Fiji’s largest power station with four generating units and a total capacity of 78MW. Located in the highlands in the Fijian island of Viti Levu, the power station was initially commissioned in 1983 and Energy Fiji are undertaking a mid life refurbishment of the power station which includes upgrade of the original relay based controls with PLC and screen based HMI and SCADA systems.
Provecta’s have been engaged to perform the configuration, factory testing and commissioning of PLC and SCADA system and application software (including historian) for the Wailoa Power Station. Provecta’s scope includes the provision of Wonderware SCADA system and associated IT and networking equipment, and application software necessary for the configuration, factory testing, and commissioning of the PLC and SCADA systems.
The first unit was successfully re-commissioned in late 2019 with the remaining three units scheduled for refurbishment and re-commissioning in 2020.
Provecta staff were accommodated in onsite bungalows staff and warmly welcomed and looked after by the EFL power station staff and Fijian locals, with camp cooks providing all meals and including birthday feasts.
