Flyers Creek Wind Farm
The Flyers Creek Wind Farm, in the Central West region of NSW near Orange, has the combined capacity to power 80,000 Australian households and offset over 330,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per year. The wind farm includes new transmission lines and substations and thirty-eight GE wind turbines with a total rating of 145MW.
Providing engineering services to Elecnor Green Light Contractors and Iberdrola, Provecta was responsible for the design, implementation and commissioning of the Operational Technology (OT) system on site. This included design, procurement, configuration, factory testing and site commissioning of network infrastructure, cybersecurity compliance, and the Balance of Plant (BoP) SCADA system. The SCADA System monitors critical data from the turbines and substations and provides a common operator interface and integration with Iberdrola’s Central Control Room in Sydney.
The process included comprehensive Factory Acceptance Testing using simulators combined with client-supplied devices, ensuring the system’s readiness before site deployment. The ongoing phase of the project involves continuous support and routine maintenance, to ensure system integrity, cybersecurity compliance and performance.
One of the unique aspects of this project was Provecta’a innovative approach to creating a redundant dispatch link between the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and the FCWF site through the SCADA system. This solution required a multi-layered integration strategy involving various systems including AEMO, Iberdrola Corporate, and local BoP and substation levels, ensuring reliable, redundant, and operationally accurate dispatch target communications.
