Operations Specialist

B.Eng Tech, ADipEng (Mech).

After gaining trade and Engineering Associate qualifications, Bruce commenced his power industry career as an Operations and Maintenance Technician at Stanwell Power Station, undertaking a variety of roles including direct plant operations of the 4 x 350MW units, as well as being part of a self-managed team undertaking maintenance planning, budgeting, plant isolation and supervision of maintenance contractors. During this period Bruce also obtained Turbine Operator and Advanced Boiler Operator certificates.

In 2001, Bruce moved to Millmerran Power Station where he took on the role as Operations Engineer responsible for the optimisation of plant performance and the investigation and root cause analysis of plant trips and other operating events. To complement his work at Millmerran, Bruce continued his education and in 2003 completed his Bachelor degree in Engineering Technology.

In 2006, Bruce moved the United States working for Bechtel where he undertook an Operations Engineering Supervisor role on the Elm Road Generating Project. This role saw Bruce responsible for the supervision of operations personnel, the development and delivery of operator training, and coordination of commissioning activities for the new 2 x 667MW coal fired supercritical units.

Bruce joined Provecta in 2010 and has successfully applied his vast operational and practical power station experience for a variety of our clients, both in Australia and overseas. Bruce is able to apply his expertise to the assist our clients with improving their plant performance, undertaking root cause analysis of plant trips and other significant operations events, developing operational philosophies, reviewing alarm management processes and developing detailed commissioning and plant return to service plans. In recent years, Bruce has begun to develop process control tuning skills and has so far applied these skills to low level power station control loops. Bruce has also become expert in the use and application of the Scientech PEPSE plant thermal cycle modeling software to assist in the optimisation of our client’s plants.
